So up until now I haven't really said anything about my political beliefs and such. I love discussing politics and I read political articles on a daily basis. However, I do know that politics are a sensitive subject and the possibility of changing someone's perspective is pretty slim. But hey, that's what I love about America. Different people with different ideas -- all of which are valid. So with that said, everything I'm about to say is my opinion and I don't believe to be fact. It's just what I think as of right now and I am in no way putting down other people's ideas. I'm just throwin' mine in the pot.
So on to the good (possibly) stuff:
I've been pretty disappointed with the presidential race this go-around. All of the candidates are so mediocre it hurts. Even though Romney isn't in the race anymore, I wasn't super impressed with him either. I thought his ideas on immigration were outrageous and completely unsound. That's one area that has really bothered me about the Republican party over the years. Why are we so afraid of immigration? What's wrong with change and adding new cultures to our fantastic country? There are HUGE limits on how the best and the brightest of the world can come into America legally. Once they are here, it's even harder for them to stay and thrive. So many are afraid of the immigrants who are here illegally. Most are hard workers who don't ask for much. Sounds pretty nice considering all of the Americans we do have that are lazy and ask for too much. There is a problem that needs to be fixed. Rounding up all of the illegal immigrants is a ridiculous idea that can NEVER be accomplished. Millions upon MILLIONS of dollars would be spent doing such a thing. Then, families would be torn apart -- families where one spouse is a citizen and the other is not. Children who were born here that are citizens may stay, but their parents are thrown in jail and forced to leave. Let's not forget how we would go about finding these illegal immigrants. Should we stop every single Hispanic we see and ask for documentation???? Legal and law abiding citizens who were born in a latin country should have to travel with immigration documents at all times??? It's a proposterous idea that that sending out the police would solve this problem.
It's been strange how over the years I have felt that slowly but surely the Republican party is starting to leave me. I don't really feel that I've left it. When it comes to the economics of our country, I am very much a conservative. Less government is better and a free economy is the secret to our success as a nation. However, I feel that the republican party is going too far to the right socially. Don't get me wrong, the Democrats are going too far to the left as well. I am starting to long for the rise of a quality third party that better suites my ideals and philosophies. The likelyhood of this happening is very slim, but one can hope.

It's always interesting to hear what others think & get their point of view. I'm so glad that we can all use our ideas & we have somewhat of a say in what goes on & we aren't punished for what we believe. Thanks for sharing. I'm staying tuned for more...
Always good to get another perspective. Imigration is a touchy subject and having grown up in Cali I have some different perspectives on it then most.
Don't give up on the Republicans. In the early formation of the party, there were two factions:
the "radicals" who wanted to end slavery immediately, and the conservatves who wanted to contain it in the south untill it died a natural death without deviding the country. It can't be said with certainty which side had the better approach, but in the end slavery ended and the Union was preseved at a cost of 600,000 lives.
Your Republican Dad
On the issue of immigration, it was John McCain and George Bush who had the guts to try to solve many of the problems you mentioned. Both suffered politically. Bush dropped another 10 points in popularity and McCain almost lost his bid for the nomination for President. Neither Hillory nor Obama stuck their necks out to propose anything. The Democrats won't deal with this issue because they are too tied to the labor unions who are the most responsible for the lousy policies that have brought us to this mess.
Just decide whether you want to be in the pro immigrant or anti immigrant wing of the party and work to advance your cause. You will be on the winning side.
LOL. I love that your Dad posted. How very brave of you to make remarks about politics when your Dad holds the position that he does! All jokes aside though, I do find it interesting to read your perspective. I'm one of those who really doesn't get involved in many political discussions; I just can't stand all the arguing and dishonesty and no one really caring what others say. But I don't think you are that way :-) I did enjoy hearing your point of view; it made me think! ps check the harward fam blog out!
You have such wonderful writing skills and now I can tell you get it from your Daddy!!!
